Members of the Florida Water and Climate Alliance Steering Committee attended and participated at the 2024 UF Water Institute Symposium on Feb 20 and 21. The Symposium provided an invaluable opportunity for the FloridaWCA to exchange insights and expertise on pressing climate and water-related challenges facing our state. Our Steering Committee members engaged enthusiastically through various avenues including presentations, session moderation, outreach table display, and networking events.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- FloridaWCA member presentations included SFWMD’s resiliency efforts and coordination and two decades of machine learning applications in the water supply management from Tampa Bay Water.
- Sessions moderated by FloridaWCA members included topics of intersecting resilience planning and decision making with topics addressing how to respond to today’s needs and future conditions, applications of AI and machine learning approaches in water resources management, and strategies for advancing water resources protection.
- Our outreach table display featured updated materials (poster/ brochures) and new swag including the first FloridaWCA calendar featuring water and climate facts for each month.
- FloridaWCA members were a strong presence at networking events beyond the symposium like serving as a panelist for Navigating Waters, a career panel event for graduates in water sciences and coordinating a social networking event for FloridaWCA and Water Management District staff.
